BEACHES

St. Simons Island features two public beaches:

Massingale Park Beach  features a picnic area, bathhouse, and even an on-duty lifeguard from June 1st until Labor Day. Parking and fishing are both free at Massingale, and drinking is allowed.

The Coast Guard Station Beach is the second beach on the St. Simons Island located by the Coast Guard Station.  It also has a bathhouse and showers, as well as on-duty lifeguards and permitted drinking.

There are many other public accesses to the beach along the roads that parallel the ocean. Just look for signs, but please always remember to respect homeowners’ rights and properties when parking.

Beach Rules for Glynn County:
No glass containers • No motorized vehicles • No littering • Please use the beach trash receptacle or carry your trash off the beach to a dumpster • If your animal leaves more than prints in the sand, please pick it up and dispose of it in a trash receptacle • Animals are prohibited on the beach from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Memorial Day through Labor Day from Mallery St. (the pier) to First St./East Beach (Coast Guard Station)

Bloody Marsh Battle Site

The battle fought here on July 7, 1742, when Spanish troops landed on the south end of St. Simons Island, proved to be the turning point in the Spanish conquest of Georgia. The marsh ran red with Spanish blood and the battle was a decisive British victory which ended forever the threat of Spanish invasion into this colony.

Cumberland Island
Pristine and secluded, Cumberland Island National Seashore, is located south of Brunswick, via I-95, Exit 3. A favorite destination for coastal visitors who love history, wildlife, and a vast sweep of unspoiled beaches. For ferry boat schedules call 912.882.4335.

St Simon's Island Lighthouse

First constructed in 1807 by James Gould on Couper's Point, this towering, 104 foot lighthouse was reconstructed in 1872 on the same site to replace the original which was destroyed by retreating Confederate forces in 1862. A beautifully restored 1872 lighthouse keeper's home complements the lighthouse.

Planned for high tide evenings (for maximum breeze and comfort!), the concerts bring residents and tourists alike to the lawn of St. Simons Island Lighthouse for one of the most pleasant and entertaining evenings you can spend in the Golden Isles.
